Potatoes

Generally in-season: June to October

Varieties: Kennebec & Red

Some people don’t think much of the lowly potato spud but it’s not to be underestimated! Exceptional nutrition like amino acids, carbohydrates, and vitamins plus a never-ending variety of delectable recipes make this versatile tuber one of the top 10 crops produced in the world. Potatoes are so fascinating that they can even be used to power a light bulb or remove rust from your old cooking utensils!

Potatoes are packed with phytonutrients such as carotenoids, flavonoids and caffeic acid. Potatoes are also a good source of potassium, vitamin C, B6, and provide many health benefits when incorporated into your diet. Although, when planning meals, people should be mindful of the high carb content. Potatoes should take the place of a grain on the plate - use it as a carb rather than as your only vegetable.

Danbrie Farms has been using the same seed potatoes on the farm for over 8 years and plants over 800 each season. Our potatoes are also carbon-free, as they are all harvested by hand instead of by tractor. We never spray our crops with pesticides which is why Farmer Jay always insists that you eat the skins as they're full of nutrients like potassium, iron, and niacin.

One of the many benefits of potatoes is their ability to store well over winter. We keep our potatoes in dry storage and enjoy them all winter long. Farmer Jay has perfected homemade french friends. Crips on the outside and soft on the inside!
